/Life in Seattle for $50,000 a year is no easy thing. The rent alone eats a gigantic portion out of each payment, and there is little remaining for discretionary expenditures. The groceries are more expensive than anticipated, and monthly, there are increased costs for utilities. Traveling in and about town is another cost, and gasoline prices are hardly bargains. Pinching pennies at every available opportunity is second nature. Living in a communal setup, riding public transit, and being stringently disciplined in expenditures is a beginning, but financial security still lies beyond reach.
