The moment the word "metro" is spoken, the names of the cities New York, London, or Washington, D.C., come to mind, with the underground train quickly ferrying people between points. Seattle lacks a fully underground metro, though. But that does not mean there isn’t a great way to get around the city by riding the city’s mass transportation system.
Seattle lacks a metro, but it does have a mode of transportation called Sound Transit’s Link Light Rail. While it isn't underground, it is much the same in other ways. The Link Light Rail comes with stops in the city and takes the rider to important points such as Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, downtown Seattle, and the University of Washington. It also has future expansion in the planning stages to reach more areas of the city.

Seattle’s Link Light Rail Is The Most Like A Metro System In Terms Of How Quickly And Easily It Moves People
Although Seattle doesn't have an underground train, the Link Light Rail is the closest thing to one. Regular schedules allow it to run on time, make stops in different places, and spare people the hassle of traffic.
The light rail currently has two main lines:
The 1 Line goes from Downtown to the airport to North Seattle.
The Tacoma T Line serves the city just south of Seattle.
Because new stations are opening, the network is growing to serve more places in the region. Once the Link Light Rail reaches more places, like Ballard and West Seattle, it will be easier than ever to get around without a car.

There Are Other Types Of Public Transportation In Seattle For People Traveling In Other Directions
If the Link Light Rail isn't traveling in the direction you're heading, don't worry! Seattle has many other ways to get around without a car.
Buses: King County Metro operates a vast fleet of buses linking the entire Seattle area. The buses run very frequently, with most having special bus-only lanes to avoid traffic.
Streetcars: Seattle runs the South Lake Union Line and the First Hill Line, which are smaller train systems running in the city streets.
Ferries: Given the proximity of Seattle to the water, ferries are a typical mode of transportation between the city and the surrounding islands like Bainbridge Island.
Monorail: The Seattle Center Monorail is a short train connecting downtown Seattle with the Seattle Center, which is the location of the Space Needle. While it is mostly used by tourists, it’s still an excellent mode of transportation!
